Scientist – Viral Culture & Molecular Biology
Work Location: Montgomery County, Maryland
Summary:
Seeking a hands-on scientist with expertise in viral culture and molecular biology to support manufacturing and research operations. The role requires independent work in a laboratory setting, focusing on viral systems and molecular techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct recombinant viral culture production using advanced transfection methods such as electroporation and Lipofectamine.
- Manage and culture viral systems, including HIV and EBV, for manufacturing purposes while adhering to biosafety standards.
- Grow and maintain both adherent and suspension cell lines in various formats for experimental and production needs.
- Apply molecular biology techniques, including plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis, and RNA transcription, to support laboratory workflows.
- Perform nucleic acid quantitation and integrity analysis using Qubit and other relevant technologies.
- Design, execute, and interpret real-time qPCR and digital PCR assays for research and production applications.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, ensuring meticulous documentation and record-keeping of laboratory activities.
- Comply with GMP and/or GLP standards and maintain a safe laboratory environment in accordance with biosafety protocols.
Qualifications:
- BS/MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with viral culture systems, particularly HIV and EBV.
- Proficiency in recombinant viral production techniques, including electroporation and Lipofectamine-based methods.
- Strong skills in culturing both adherent and suspension cell lines.
- Experience with plasmid purification, gel electrophoresis, RNA transcription, and Qubit quantitation.
- Expertise in real-time qPCR and digital PCR platforms.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple laboratory tasks efficiently.
- BSL2 laboratory experience and familiarity with biosafety protocols for handling infectious agents.
- Experience in a GMP manufacturing or diagnostics environment is a plus.
- Background in reference standards, controls, or reagent manufacturing is desirable.
- Familiarity with formalin-fixed cell preparation is preferred.
