Green Health and Wellness Center is looking to add a Lead Laboratory Technologist to the Lab Team. In this role, you will perform all duties of a Medical Technologist such as performing and interpreting tests at all levels of complexity, using your understanding of the theories and technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects of Laboratory Science, as well as support, in full or in part, one or more specialized tracks (educational, developmental, and technical resource) of job responsibility. 

A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with required coverage every third weekend and two holidays per year.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform laboratory testing compliantly and maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness of specific job duties. 

  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. 

  • Assume responsibility for and acts regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties.  

  • Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications. 

  • Document practices and maintain clear and legible records. 

  • Perform proficiency testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations. 

  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director. 

  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. 

  • Function as an educator and provide instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees and residents. 

  • Conduct lab specific orientation for new employees and develop and coordinate laboratory continuing education program. 

  • Assist in the validation/verification of new assays under the direction of the Medical Director. 

  • Perform validation/verification analysis. 

  • Collect and analyze data and prepare for Medical Director review. 

  • Write technical procedures and submit to the Medical Director for review and the Laboratory Director for approval. 

  • Train medical technologists in new testing procedures and assist with implementation of newly developed clinical tests. 

  • Effectively resolve daily technical and theoretical problems and solve technical problems. 

  • Serve as a technical resource for laboratory testing personnel, supervisors and staff.  

  • Recognize and resolve complex technical problems and provide or seek viable, appropriate solutions. 

  • Perform and oversee troubleshooting and repair of assigned laboratory instruments/equipment/procedures. 

  • Assist with ensuring that procedure manuals are up to date and that annual reviews of procedure manuals are conducted. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Pattern I: Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution AND three years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing 

  • Demonstrates technical and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform clinical laboratory functions

  • Pattern II: Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel 

  • See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42, § 493.1489 Standard, High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications AND have at least three years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in non-waived testing 

  • Demonstrates technical and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform clinical laboratory functions

  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided. Education will be verified 

  • Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from a NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc) member

  • Laboratory training or experience and can be met by any combination of years of clinical laboratory training or experience 

  • Clinical laboratory training or experience can be met by: 1. Medical Technology internship 2. Full time experience performing non-waived testing for the required number of years 3. Part-time experience performing non-waived testing, with 2080 hours equivalent to one year 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist, such as MLS (ASCP) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) eligible 

  • Lead experience

  • Experience in all areas of lab

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $33.46

Maximum hourly: $51.03

A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.). The pay range does not include the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement savings account contributions, etc.).
