Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate need for a Maintenance Engineer to support our Piedmont location in Newton, North Carolina. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of equipment maintenance, product quality and plant engineering.
Piedmont is a finishing facility located 50 miles northwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. The 28,000-square-foot facility specializes in plasma-cutting plate steel products into blanks for machinery and automotive manufacturers, and primarily serves the truck axle blank business. Additionally, it provides such services as part leveling, warehousing and just-in-time deliveries.

Summary Of Responsibilities
- Monitor delay rates and product quality to assure equipment dependability and reliability.
- Provide expertise in troubleshooting and solving both electrical and mechanical problems of various pieces of plant equipment, including automatic conveyors, overhead cranes, and CNC machines.
- Work directly with customers regarding product quality and customer requests.
- Write programs for CNC cutting equipment as needed.
- Manage purchasing and analyzing costs for maintenance and plant supplies.
- Manage the Quality, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Conduct formal qualifications of new mills and processors as needed.
- Available off hours and weekends when business needs dictate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical Systems, including PLC and CNC controls.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
- Leadership, communication, computer, CAD, organizational, math and practical engineering skills.
- Five years of heavy industry and steel maintenance, technical and supervisory experience.
- Experience in mechanical systems including fluid and mechanical power, hydraulic control systems, pumps, piping.
- Experience in working with a formal quality system (ISO/QS).
- Experience in Preventive/Predictive Maintenance Systems.
