Job Description
Purchasing & Procurement
- Source and purchase materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and parts needed for shipyard operations.
- Contact vendors to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
- Perform price comparisons from multiple vendors to ensure competitive purchasing and best value.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to support routine and emergency procurement needs.
- Research alternative products and replacement parts when exact specifications are unavailable.
- Identify the equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to support specific projects and operational requirements.
- Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments for accuracy and completeness.
- Track deliveries and follow up on backorders, delays, and shortages.
- Check materials into inventory and maintain organized warehouse storage areas.
- Evaluate products received to ensure they meet order requirements and quality expectations.
- Maintain inventory records and monitor stock levels to prevent shortages.
- Coordinate the distribution of materials to production and maintenance teams.
- Research and identify parts, tools, and equipment based on limited information, photos, descriptions, or field requests.
- Utilize vendor catalogs, online resources, manufacturer documentation, and industry contacts to locate required items.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of marine and industrial materials, including piping components, fittings, galvanized materials, threaded products, and available sizes and lengths.
- Recommend suitable alternatives when original products are unavailable.
- Manage purchasing documentation, invoices, packing slips, and receiving records.
- Utilize Excel spreadsheets and email to track purchasing activity, inventory, and order status.
- Maintain accurate records and organized filing systems.
- Reconcile orders with invoices and receiving documentation.
- Communicate purchasing updates and delivery schedules to management and operations personnel.
Required:
- Experience in purchasing, warehouse operations, inventory control, or procurement.
- Strong ability to research products and identify replacement parts with limited information.
- Working knowledge of industrial, construction, marine, or maintenance-related materials and supplies.
- Experience obtaining vendor quotes and performing price comparisons.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Strong organizational, follow-up, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to manage paperwork, invoices, purchase records, and receiving documentation accurately.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a shipyard, marine, industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of marine materials, fittings, piping systems, rigging supplies, tools, and maintenance-related equipment.
- Experience managing warehouse inventory and purchasing functions simultaneously.
- Existing vendor relationships within industrial or marine supply markets.
- Exceptional customer service mindset for supporting internal departments and vendors.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Dependable and responsive with excellent follow-through.
- Resourceful problem solver with strong common sense and sound judgment.
