Temp Part-Time Receptionist

Schedule: Saturday, Sunday, Monday | 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (Fully onsite)
Occasional backfill shifts may be requested if staff call out; operating hours are 7:30 AM – 10:00 PM
Pay Rate: $25/hr - $25.65/hr
Location: Chelsea/West Village area of Manhattan
An LGBTQ nonprofit organization is seeking a reliable, community-oriented Temp Part-Time Receptionist to provide front desk and information & referral support in a fully onsite role. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a people-facing environment, remains calm under pressure, and is committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming space for all visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome all visitors and staff, providing reception support via in-person inquiries, phone calls, emails, and online chats
- Maintain the safety of the space by proactively engaging visitors and enforcing the organization’s Code of Conduct
- Remain alert at all times, monitor security cameras, and communicate with team members as needed
- Respond to requests for assistance from staff and community members
- Refuse admittance to individuals prohibited from entering the building
- Conduct regular building walkthroughs to assess activity, traffic flow, and safety conditions
- Report unsafe conditions immediately and close off affected areas when necessary
- Contact emergency services (EMTs, FDNY, NYPD) as needed
- Prepare internal incident reports
- Maintain awareness of the daily calendar of events and direct visitors accordingly
- Be knowledgeable about all organization-run activities, groups, events, and referral resources
- Perform building opening and closing procedures, including scheduling doors to lock/unlock
- Complete daily data entry into space reservation systems and internal logs
- Oversee the on-site cyber center, including processing payments and troubleshooting basic issues
- Receive and process in-person payments for memberships and space rentals
- Direct deliveries to appropriate staff or departments
- Maintain front desk publications, bulletin boards, and literature racks, and be familiar with their contents
