What are the responsibilities and job description for the COOK/DIETARY AIDE position at Clara Barton Hospital & Clinics?
JOB SUMMARY : Provides food service to patients, family members, public, and employees under sanitary conditions. Provides assistance in all dietary functions, as directed, and in accordance with established dietary policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Prepare menus using appropriate food items
- Ability to work different shifts as needed
- Check food temperatures to assure acceptable and safe hot/cold foods
- Follow patient menus accurately in the patient’s tray makeup line
- Responsible for preparing late trays as needed either for patients, doctors, medical students and/or staff
- Responsible for making snacks for special meetings and events.
- Clean work areas, equipment, walls, cabinets, storage areas, and other areas assigned in accordance with established cleaning schedules
- Responsible for washing dishes, cookware(pots/pans), flatware, and trays, using approved procedures
- Responsible for answering the telephone as needed
- Deliver snacks and beverages to the surgical waiting area and the physician’s lounge; deliver patient trays to PACU as needed
- Assist in unloading groceries and restocking in appropriate locations
- Responsible for food items from walk-in freezer to walk-in-refrigerator; checks for outdated food items and disposes of outdated items, as procedures require
- Assist co-workers, as needed
- Perform dietary aide responsibilities as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires full range of motion including; balancing, fingering, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion. Essential sensory and communicative activities include feeling, seeing, speaking, hearing, smelling and tasting. Ability to lift small kitchen equipment as needed. Standing and walking for extensive periods are required. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to stand, lift moderate weights, pull and push items. Normal corrected vision and hearing is required. Must have ability to work under stressful conditions and have the ability to work irregular hours. Must work under conditions of sudden changes in temperatures when entering refrigerated areas or working around serving counters and cooking equipment
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION :
1. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to working with persons who are ill, disabled, elderly and/or emotionally upset
2. Must be able to use tools and equipment required
3. Basic computer skills preferred
4. Must have the ability to stand, stoop, lift moderate weights, and pull and push items
5. High School diploma or equivalent preferred
6. Minimum of six months prior experience in a food service department a plus
7. Certificate of Food Safety (Serve Safe) a plus and/or must be willing to attend course

ENVIRONMENT :
Clara Barton Hospital is an acute care facility licensed for 23 beds. The Dietary Department is responsible to provide meals in a clean, pleasant atmosphere for patients, family members, staff and medical personnel. Individuals in this position will be exposed to the following environmental conditions when performing duties: inside and outside environmental conditions such as chemical hazards, respiratory hazards and extreme cold in temperature when entering refrigerated areas. Subject to burns from hot foods and utensils, cuts from knives, and the possibility of injury from falls on slippery floors.
