Schedule: Monday - Friday | 9:00am - 5:00pm
Location: fully onsite in Downtown Chicago, Illinois
Duration: 2 months, with potential for extension or permanent placement
Compensation: $25 - $28/hour; salaried upon perm conversion
Our client, a Downtown Chicago legal firm, seeks a Legal Assistant to support their team by managing e-filings, client communications, and day-to-day office operations. The role requires strong legal support experience (e-filing experience is a must) and adaptability.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for incoming calls and emails; provide timely, professional communication to clients, court staff, and internal team members.
- Prepare, format, proofread, and send legal correspondence, notices, motions, and other filings.
- Handle e-filing of court documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to all deadlines and court rules.
- Manage outgoing communication of notices, motions, and other case-related documents.
- Maintain organized physical and digital case files; assist with scanning, saving, labeling, and tracking documents.
- Support attorneys with scheduling, deadline tracking, and general case-management tasks.
- Assist with daily office operations—processing mail, greeting clients, ordering supplies, and helping wherever needed.
- Adapt to changing priorities and take initiative in identifying areas where support is needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Previous legal support experience in a law firm or legal department.
- Demonstrated experience with e-filing in state courts.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
- Professionalism, discretion, and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
- Experience with elder law or estate planning preferred.
