Position Summary: The Multi-Department Support Specialist is a direct care position responsible for setting the compassionate tone at the emergency shelter serving single women. This team member is responsible for assisting clients, answering questions, processing required paperwork, and completing database entries. The Multi-Department Support Specialist is responsible for monitoring shelter dorm rooms and client activities, problem-solving, and working with a diverse population in crisis without judgment. The Multi-Department Support Specialist must be able to work as a team member, build appropriate professional relationships with clients and service agency partners, defuse/manage conflict, provide advocacy within the emergency shelter, and coordinate overall client services. This position interacts with staff from several other departments as part of the interdisciplinary team approach to problem-solving and to meet clients' needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Welcome and greet new clients and meet their immediate needs as they come into the shelter.

Must have a heart of compassion and care towards the homeless and hurting who are in need.

Determine client eligibility based on agency guidelines and policy.

Search client's belongings and follow written procedures if weapons, drugs, or paraphernalia are found.

Explain shelter options, bed availability, guidelines, and expectations.

Complete entire intake process.

Monitor dorms and/or other assigned areas to ensure clients receive services in a clean and safe environment.

Monitor laundry, mealtimes, and client activities.

Maintain ERP schedule & coverage for the women's center.

Maintain a neat and clean reception area.

Manage basic shelter supplies to meet the client's needs.

Communicate unmet client needs to case management staff and/or supervisor.

Work effectively with case management, Recovery, Shelter, and supervisory staff to coordinate client services.

Communicate and work effectively with staff members from other departments and service agency partners in a positive and productive manner.

Ensure that data entry into the Agency's database is complete and accurate.

Agrees with and carries out responsibilities in accordance with the Mission's policies, Code of Conduct, Statement of Faith, and Mission Statement.

Report problems and/or concerns to supervisor.

Monitor and observe elderly and other vulnerable populations to screen for abuse, neglect, and other special needs.

Report incidents of suspected abuse for appropriate action.

Perform and/or report security responsibilities when needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or President/CEO.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in social work or related field (or) two plus years' experience with people who are homeless or in a related human service field

Experience with social service agencies and functions

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Effective time management and communication skills

Knowledge and understanding in dealing with diverse populations including, homeless, mental health, drug addictions and people with disabilities.

Proficient use of computers, basic office software, and any other data management system used to track service delivery

Strong ability to effectively resolve and cope with immediate conflict and/or crisis situations

Trustworthy, reliable, and level-headed.

Emotionally healthy and able to respond to client behavioral issues in a healthy way.

Knowledge of Microsoft software, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel

Knowledge of community resources available in various neighborhoods

Understand the philosophy and guiding principles of City Rescue Mission
