What are the responsibilities and job description for the Code Enforcement Field Assistant (Seasonal) position at City of Williston?
The City of Williston is seeking a Code Enforcement Field Assistant (Seasonal) for the period of May 2026 through August 2026.
Summary: Assist the Code Enforcement Officers with as many duties as possible, including but not limited to identifying grass violations as well as junk and rubbish violations.
Supervision Received: Development Services Director, Code Enforcement Officers
Essential Job Functions: (May not include all the duties performed)
- With supervision, receives and responds to citizens’ inquiries and complaints concerning alleged code violations.
- With supervision, implements various code compliancy programs as they relate to property maintenance, trash/ debris accumulation, abandoned vehicle storage and public nuisance abatement, as well as tall grass cases.
- Gathers and documents evidence.
- Learns about follow up abatement procedures, including the preparation of additional correspondence, site visits, and communications with property owners and attorneys.
- Learns about follow up investigations; preparing for non-compliant cases for legal action and administrative hearings; presenting testimony at hearings in court.
- Be physically present in attendance at the worksite or jobsite.
- Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Willing to learn and implement methods and techniques of investigative work.
- Willing to learn to keep records and prepare reports.
- Ability to inspect works being performed to determine adherence to code.
- Ability to establish and maintain communication effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle (Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.)
- Ability to bend and walk, climb, and maneuver on uneven terrain. Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to visually detect code violations and to determine appropriate remedial actions.
- Willing to learn to write violations and citations.
- Ability to work with modern office equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be willing to leave personal phone/ devices in the office while driving a city vehicle.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
