ABOUT THE ROLE:
The role involves performing a wide range of hands-on street maintenance and repair tasks, including patching and reconstructing asphalt and concrete surfaces, operating jackhammers and concrete finishing tools, spreading gravel, grading alleys, and conducting rough carpentry work.
A major responsibility is snow and ice control during the winter season), which requires operating plow trucks, graders, and chemical spreaders, along with availability for extended hours, weekends, and emergency call-outs as needed.
The position entails operating and maintaining various heavy construction equipment—such as dump trucks, loaders, rollers, sweepers, and specialized power tools—while conducting pre- and post-trip inspections, fueling, cleaning vehicles, and identifying equipment needs for projects.
Additional duties include installing and maintaining storm drain systems, laying out and applying traffic control markings, setting up work zone traffic control devices, directing traffic, developing basic traffic plans, and ensuring public safety through proper precautions.
The worker also handles general cleanup of public rights-of-way, responds to public inquiries and emergency calls (including nights and weekends), performs utility locate research using GIS, completes required documentation such as daily reports and checklists, and carries out related facility, vehicle, and building maintenance tasks as assigned.

The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Employee may be exposed to confined work areas such as trenches, manholes, catch basins, and storm sewers. Must have vision to drive, read computer screens, and written or typed materials. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds assisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must be able to drive for extended periods of time at various times of the day.

Qualifications:Qualifications
Maintenance Technician I
- No prior experience required.
- Experience in general construction or municipal government operations is preferred.
- The City provides support and opportunities for employees to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Maintenance Technician II
- Prerequisite Training: Completion of required training from previous levels (see attached).
- Required Certifications:
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Flagger Certification
- Required Proficiencies and Technical Capabilities: See attached.
Maintenance Technician III
- Experience Requirement: Minimum of two (2) years of streets maintenance experience.
- Prerequisite Training: Completion of required training from previous levels.
- Required Certifications:
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Flagger Certification
- Required Proficiencies and Technical Capabilities: See attached.
Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record. The city is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to conduct pre employment and ongoing, random drug screens, background checks, and motor vehicle record checks. Successful candidates must pass all of the above including a DOT physical and a criminal background check.
