The City of Westbrook is hiring an Equipment Operator.
Under direction, performs a variety of maintenance and construction tasks; operates all trucks, skid steer loaders, front end loaders, street sweepers, rollers, compactors, roadside mowers, wood chippers, snowplows and snow removal equipment, various types of light equipment and hand tools as required, riding and walk-behind mowers, trimmers, chainsaws and other tools related to forestry and ground maintenance services.

Key Responsibilities:
- Performs manual work common to the Public Services operations.
- Operates various construction vehicles and equipment.
- Performs snowplowing and snow removal operations.
- Performs asphalt applications, storm drainage, interments, foundations and various maintenance-related work.
- Makes minor repairs and adjustments to vehicles and equipment and performs necessary service work.
Education & Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the field of construction or work relating to public works, ground maintenance and forestry.
- Ability to operate all types of trucks and light equipment common to public services operations.
- Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions.
- Experience performing arborist duties highly desirable.
- Must possess a valid State of Maine commercial driver’s license with clean driving record, Class B. The City of Westbrook will provide classroom and on the road training to obtain the Class B license.

Compensation and Benefits:
- We offer a $1,500 sign on bonus to be distributed in two lump sum payments upon hire and after successful completion of the probationary period.
- Competitive salary range of $25.53 – $27.38/hour depending upon experience.
- Candidates with an active Arborist License are eligible for an additional $1.25/hour stipend.
- This position is full-time, non-exempt and covered by the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.

The City of Westbrook was a traditional mill city that has grown and diversified significantly over the last two decades to become a residential hub and business center for the region. Westbrook has a population of over 20,000 and covers 17.36 square miles. Westbrook is centrally located to both urban and rural amenities. The Public Services Department consists of two Light Equipment Operators, 18 Equipment Operators, two supervisors, and one manager. The Streets division of the Public Services Department is responsible for 93 miles of roadways, 6.2 acres of public parking, 43 acres of parks and open spaces in 35 locations, and five cemeteries of 39 acres.
