What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumber position at City of Virginia Beach?
The City of Virginia Beach Public Works - Building Maintenance division is currently looking to hire several Plumbers. As a Plumber, you will install, repair, and maintain piping fittings and fixtures involved in the distribution and use of water and waste systems in a city buildings in accordance with the best practices of the trade.
This position will be filled as a Plumber I (G17, $38,584.00 $59,820.80) or Plumber II (G.21, $46,904 - $72,696) depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Duties include:
Trouble shoot, perform repairs and install plumbing fixtures and appurtenances, such as but not limited to, sinks, toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, water heaters, domestic recirculation pumps, lift stations waste and water service supply systems to maintain in working order and according to local codes and best practices of the trade.
Use proper drain cleaning equipment to clear stoppages in waste system.
Repair, maintain and monitor sewer lift stations systems
Clean and maintain grease interceptor devices and maintain FOG manifest records.
Correctly operate hand and power tools, following all safety procedures and regulations. Operate all automotive equipment in a safe manner
Test, maintain, repair and install back flow prevention devices.
Review blueprints and document necessary comments
Document daily records of all work in a clear and concise manner
Process work orders and all necessary paperwork upon completion of request
Plan coordinate and schedule sequence of work operations within the Plumbing department and between other trades, branches of the city, private contractors and vendors.
Supervise and assist subordinate employees within the Plumbing department
Provide labor, material and other related costs and obtain purchase orders for job quotes and projects.
Obtain labor, material and other related costs for job quotes from departments within the city, private contractors and vendors.
Maintain work truck in a professional and organized manner.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described.
Individual assignments will be determined and assigned by the supervisor based on current workloads and departmental needs.
Clean, maintain and keep truck organized and properly stocked
Maintain a daily job activities records book in a clear and concise manner.
Set up and break down for special events.
This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
The ideal candidates will be skilled in installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems in both commercial and residential settings.
Please Note: Candidates that to not have a Backflow Prevention License must obtain this license within (1) year of employment.
