Firefighter

As a Firefighter with the City of Twin Falls, you will serve an important role in protecting the lives, property, and well-being of our community. This position is ideal for someone who is physically capable, team-oriented, dependable, and motivated to build a career in fire and emergency services.

The Twin Falls Fire Department is a progressive, all-hazards response organization serving the City of Twin Falls and the surrounding Rural Fire Protection District. Firefighters respond to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, wildland fires, aircraft emergencies, vehicle extrications, and other emergency situations. The Department responded to 6,639 incidents in 2025.

This recruitment will establish an eligibility pool to fill two current Firefighter vacancies and future vacancies that may arise. The eligibility pool will remain active until the next Firefighter recruitment unless dissolved earlier by the Human Resources Department or Fire Chief. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2026, although the City reserves the right to close the recruitment early if a sufficient number of qualified applications are received.

Description

As a Firefighter, you will:

  • Respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency situations
  • Learn and apply proper methods of fire suppression and emergency response
  • Participate in classroom instruction, drills, practical training, and self-study
  • Operate and assist with firefighting tools, equipment, hose lines, ladders, and related apparatus
  • Assist in mitigating fire-related and other emergency incidents
  • Participate in fire prevention and pre-emergency planning activities
  • Assist with inspections and public education programs
  • Maintain fire stations, apparatus, tools, equipment, and assigned work areas
  • Participate in physical fitness and ongoing professional development
  • Work effectively as part of an emergency-response team
  • Communicate professionally with coworkers, partner agencies, and members of the public
  • Perform strenuous physical work in demanding and adverse conditions
  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • Probationary Firefighter - $4,801 monthly

Required Qualifications
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Possess a current Idaho EMT certification or National Registry EMT (NREMT) certification, or have successfully completed an approved EMT training program before applying

Candidates who have completed an approved EMT training program but are awaiting certification, licensure, or agency affiliation may apply. However, all required EMT credentials must be obtained before appointment.

Employees must establish residency within 40 miles of the center of Twin Falls, defined as the intersection of Main Avenue and Shoshone Street, within 15 months of employment.

Following appointment, employees must successfully complete the Twin Falls Fire Department Skills Test during the introductory period and obtain IFSAC Firefighter I Certification within the required timeframe.

Schedule

Upon completion of the in-house training academy, Firefighters are assigned to a rotating schedule consisting of 48 hours on duty / 96 hours off duty.

All new City employees serve a 12-month introductory period. Public safety employees are also subject to random drug testing.
