SUMMARY

The Deputy Airport Manager is a full-time position that works under the direct supervision of the Airport Manager. The employee assists with the supervision of airport personnel and the general operation of the terminal. The Deputy Airport Manager maintains the equipment used to assist with the safe arrival and departure of aircraft and monitors fuel quality on a daily basis. This position also performs the functions of the Services Specialist position as required.


EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assumes the responsibilities of the Airport Manager during his or her absence.
  • Executes the Airport Emergency Action Plan when necessary.
  • Assists in the training, supervision, scheduling, and evaluation of Airport Operations and Services personnel.
  • Serves as the primary airport contact for emergencies and operational issues when the Airport Manager is unavailable.
  • Assists with the data recording, maintenance, and inspection of airport facilities, equipment, and operational systems.
  • Assists with records and procedures for offloading fuel into the fuel farm.
  • Assists the Airport Manager with inspections of airport facilities, grounds, and operational areas.
  • Transfers fuel from the fuel farm to the fuel truck as required.
  • Maintains the Fuel Quality Control Program, including performing required daily inspections and documentation.
  • Monitors and assists with the operation of Navigation Aids (NAVAIDS), Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS), Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI’s), runway lights, taxiway lights, and other airport infrastructure.
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating required maintenance on airport vehicles and equipment, including performing maintenance and supervising staff who conduct maintenance activities.
  • Monitors ramps, taxiways, and runways for Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and other operational hazards.
  • Oversees and performs fuel farm maintenance and fuel inventory control.
  • Performs refueling of aircraft, including climbing ladders as necessary to service various aircraft types.
  • Assists in maintaining airport facilities, terminal areas, grounds, and public spaces in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
  • Provides professional and courteous customer service to airport tenants, users, visitors, and the general public.
  • Maintains accurate records related to fuel usage, fuel sales, fees, inspections, and operational activities.
  • Safely and efficiently operates point-of-sale systems, computers, copiers, and other office equipment.
  • Fuels and tows aircraft using approved methods and safety procedures.
  • Safely operates fuel pumps, fuel trucks, aircraft tugs, tow bars, tractors, bush hogs, lawn mowers, weed eaters, two-way radios, and other equipment necessary for airport operations.
  • Assists with employee scheduling and operational coverage.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with FAA, TSA, TDOT Aeronautics, environmental, and other applicable regulations.
  • Assists with budget preparation, purchasing, inventory control, and operational planning activities as assigned.
  • Assists with monitoring tenant compliance with lease agreements, airport policies, and operational requirements.
  • Responds to airport emergencies, operational incidents, and after-hours issues as required.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Airport Manager or Airport Authority.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, tenants, customers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner, with special emphasis on customer service.
  • Ability to work with minimal daily supervision.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergency call-outs as required.
  • Regular and dependable attendance is required.
  • Skill in safely fueling various makes and models of aircraft, collecting and processing payments, and communicating effectively using aviation radio communications.
  • Skill in safely operating airport vehicles, lawn maintenance equipment, and airport support equipment.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to airport and aviation operations.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with airport policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn occupational hazards associated with airport operations and implement appropriate safety precautions.
  • Ability to distinguish between different types of aviation fuels and understand fuel quality control procedures.
  • Depth perception and peripheral vision necessary to safely operate fuel trucks, aircraft tugs, and other airport equipment.
  • Knowledge of department rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of airport operations, aviation safety practices, and customer service principles.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Airport Operations, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of airport operations, aviation services, airport management, or related experience required.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications, licenses, and training required for airport operations.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

ADA REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements - Physical demand requirements are at levels for those of active work. Regular performance of heavier tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces; bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching above shoulder level and working in confined spaces; lifting or carrying weights of twenty to fifty pounds; may require the complex operation of gasoline, electric or diesel-powered machinery or shop equipment requiring the manipulation of multiple controls, fine adjustments or both. May work in adverse environmental conditions and hazardous work conditions. The employee will be exposed to loud noise, machinery with moving parts, aircraft propellers, jet engine exhaust, sanitization of bathroom facilities and occasional exposure to mild chemical substances.


Sensory Requirements - Tasks require visual perception and discrimination including color and depth. Tasks require perception and discrimination of odor and sound.

Salary : $66,446 - $69,130
