What are the responsibilities and job description for the On-Call Librarian position at City of Tigard?
Are you an excellent customer service provider, a persistent technology troubleshooter, and a top-notch researcher? The Tigard Public Library seeks several On-Call Librarians to help patrons access technology and find materials they want and need. Join our team to ensure that the Library is a trusted source for accurate, vital materials and resources.
These positions provide professional level reference, readers advisory, and technology support at the adult and children's reference desks. On-Call Librarians fill weekday, evening, weekend and short notice scheduling needs.
These On-Call positions do not have a regular schedule from week to week. On-Call Librarians help provide reference desk coverage for planned and unplanned absences in the Readers Services division. There are opportunities to accept shifts weeks in advance for planned absences, and on short notice for unplanned absences.
- Create a welcoming environment for all patrons.
- Assist with technology troubleshooting and navigation of technology hardware and software.
- Provide informational reference using online or physical resources and/or databases.
- Offer reading, viewing, and/or listening recommendations to patrons using knowledge, online tools, and/or navigation of physical collection.
- Interpret and apply city and library policies and procedures.
- Ensure positive and harmonious interaction and relationships amongst patrons and library staff.
- Provide support with library projects such as displays, booklists, or other projects as assigned.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, to perform the essential functions of the position, may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Master's degree in library science from an accredited college or university AND
- Some library experience
Schedule: Applicants must be able to work a wide variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends, and must be capable of accepting shifts each month.
