Overview
The Tigard Public Library seeks a manager to focus on creating and maintaining a safe, inclusive, environment for library users. The person in this position will work to ensure that library users have a welcoming experience at service desks and in library spaces. The person in this senior management role will lead the Person in Charge team, oversee trainings, and serve as a supervisor for library employees.
Our ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver, a customer service expert, a knowledgeable librarian trained in trauma-informed care principles and de-escalation techniques, an excellent supervisor, and is comfortable with ambiguity and change.
Examples of Duties
Example of Duties:
- Leads the Library’s Person in Charge team
- Serves as interdepartmental liaison with Tigard Police Department
- Manages projects to achieve strategic Library objectives
- Develops and updates Library policies and procedures
- Oversees safety-related and other trainings
- Supervises Library employees
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional librarianship
- Knowledge of and experience with trauma-informed care principles and practices
- Skill & training in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to select, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Master's degree in Library Sciences from an accredited college or university, and
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible related experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Schedule: This position is 40 hours per week (1 FTE) Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Schedule may be adjusted periodically for trainings or for other operational needs.
