In this role, you will support the planning, design, and implementation of Traffic Signal and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable travel for residents and visitors. You will review and prepare engineering and design documents, coordinate projects and resources, and provide technical and supervisory guidance, all while contributing to a team dedicated to delivering high-quality, innovative transportation solutions.
Salary Range: $29.0888 to $78.9348/hourly, depending on experience and qualifications
Responsibilities
- Review, prepare, and manage plans and documents for new construction and improvements to traffic signals, flashing beacons, pedestrian safety signals, and other traffic management systems. Conduct field visits, develop project plans, estimate costs, coordinate surveys and permits, and prepare project materials for City-managed projects.
- Maintain and organize important project documents, maps, and records for traffic signals and other systems. Lead plan review meetings, manage comments and questions, and provide guidance to City staff and outside partners, including state and county agencies.
- Support in-house construction projects by coordinating design efforts and working with external designers and consultants to ensure projects meet City standards and requirements.
- Lead and guide assigned staff by promoting safe work practices, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental rules, providing training, addressing unsafe practices, and participating in accident reporting and safety reviews.
- Perform supervisory responsibilities, including setting work priorities, coaching and providing feedback, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff have the training and resources they need, and administering discipline when necessary.
- Assist with planning, managing, and monitoring operating and capital budgets. Ensure resources are used appropriately and in accordance with City policies, and suggest ways to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, or drafting and design and six (6) years of technical experience in the assigned area; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Requirements
- At the Department Director’s discretion, a valid Class E State Driver’s License (or equivalent) may be required at the time of appointment.
- Incumbents in designated positions are required to file a financial disclosure statement in compliance with Florida Statutes, Chapter 112, Part III
