Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Prevention Manager, the Prevention Youth Intern role involves revising and distributing the South Salt Lake Prevention Toolkit, specifically related to prevention efforts for the community, highlighting prevention for young athletes (in conjunction with our Summer Soccer Prevention Camp), and assisting with the overdose prevention strategies workshops. The intern will also support related community engagement efforts during the assigned period of time. The Prevention Youth Intern position is a part time temporary position (a total of 120 hr/summer/intern) at $17/hr, from June to July 2026.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Essential Responsibilities And Duties
- Community Prevention Project Management:
- Promote prevention initiatives for young athletes in coordination with the Summer Soccer Prevention Camp, support during games and engage with families in attendance.
- Distribute the South Salt Lake Prevention Toolkit to support community education on local prevention efforts and data.
- Conduct outreach at community events to share prevention resources and increase awareness of South Salt Lake community members on available resources and opioid prevention strategies.
- Assist with set up during Overdose Prevention Strategies community workshops.
- Support Promise SSL Gang and Substance Misuse Prevention Coalition:
- Report work out to the Prevention Manager and participate in the SSL Gang and Substance Misuse Prevention Committee meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Between the ages of 16-18 years old.
- A working knowledge of substance misuse issues, public health, and/or prevention practices.
- Evidence of commitment to the mission of Promise South Salt Lake.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to self-start, learn new skills, and work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, and the public.
- Skills in professional office settings, including knowledge of common computer software including the Google Suite and Canva.
