General Job Description
Oversees the daily operation of the Bookmobile. Performs circulation duties and assists Library customers. Oversees and directs staff member in library functions such as helping library customers, processing materials, scheduling, preparation of manager reports, and various other administrative functions. Reports to Director of Library and/or Assistant Director of Libraries.

Reports to Director of Library and/or Assistant Director of Libraries.
Duties for this Position
- Oversees the overall organization, effectiveness, and efficiency of outreach services
- Perform customer service tasks such as answering the phone, answering directional questions, and assisting customers on the bookmobile
- Monitors and enforces safety and behavior rules when patrons are on the bookmobile
- Assists with interviews and hiring for staff.
- Supervises assigned staff, including library assistant.
- Manages, reviews, and evaluates staff.
- Assigns workloads, establishes work schedules, and sets duties of employees.
- Addresses employee problems and complaints.
- Trains employees regarding duties and library policies and procedures.
- Oversees staff usage of sick and vacation leave time.
- Develops, oversees, and implements bookmobile public and facility site visits
- Processes payments, reconciles cashiering drawer and prepares deposits
- Prepares monthly manager reports, statistics, incident reports, and general correspondence
- Plans yearly budget requests and quarterly supply requests
- Prepares and submits quarterly supply inventory
- Monitors condition of bookmobile and coordinates improvements and repairs with Library Courier
- Resolves customer complaints
- Perform circulation tasks such as checking in/out library materials, processing new items, checking in courier delivery, collecting fines, processing patron requests, issuing new cards, and processing new books and periodicals
- Performs collection maintenance such as shifting, discarding and weeding
- Rotates Bookmobile collections on a regular basis in order to keep the collection new and fresh for patrons
- Coordinates Books-by-Mail Service
- Serves as a liaison with community groups, facilities, and media, as required.
- Attends community events including but not limited to parades, festivals, etc.
- Responsible for driving the vehicle, as shared with the Bookmobile Library Assistant
- Assists with Library services at branch locations, as needed
- Pursues professional development and training opportunities for self and staff
- Updates and maintains a comprehensive list of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Shelves materials
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Requires excellent verbal and written ability to effectively convey information to staff, other County employees, and the public. This includes the ability to understand and receive directions and assignments from supervisor. Employee must also be able to tactfully and effectively handle requests, suggestions, and complaints.
- Requires excellent computer skills.
- Requires excellent customer service skills.
- Requires knowledge of general operations of the Library department as related to position. Employee must be able to apply this knowledge to situations as they arise. This includes the ability to make independent judgements in the absence of supervision. Employees must also have the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance.
- Requires the ability to interact effectively with Library staff, County staff, and the public in a professional manner and to convey information successfully whatever the situation.
- Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of library experience, and/or an equivalent of education, training, and experience
- Exemplary customer service skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Capable of driving and maneuvering a 30-foot vehicle in traffic and tight spots
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and office equipment
- Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check
