Under general direction, is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all technical aspects of the operation of events held at the Carver Community Center. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff. May be exposed to high noise levels, temperature variations, and dirty environments. May occasionally supervise large numbers of technical stage crews for large productions.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Event driven position
  • Additional hours to include evenings, nights, weekends & holidays as needed
  • Supervises the operation of technical equipment used to ensure proper and safe use.
  • Supervises crews setting up, working, and tearing down all events and activities.
  • Coordinates clients' technical requirements with equipment and personnel availability.
  • Schedules work hours and workloads for staff around events and maintenance days.
  • Establishes and maintains procedures used for checking in and out City owned technical equipment used within the department.
  • Provides technical advice to current and prospective clients.
  • Prepares estimates and final invoices of labor charges for clients.
  • Coordinates move-in and move-out items with clients and their outside technical contractors.
  • Supervises non-City technical personnel while they are working in the Center.
  • Works with technical personnel and contractors to establish skill levels for non-City stagehands who operate City-owned equipment including audio visual and office equipment.
  • Makes recommendations for the lease or purchase of needed equipment.
  • Sets up, operates, and strikes technical equipment, when necessary.
  • Prepares budget figures related to technical operations.
  • Provides technical direction of tele-screen and closed circuit television systems during events.
  • Coordinates technical system requirements with radio and television broadcast agencies and companies for events.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance, storage, and inventory of all stage and audio visual equipment.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of experience with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience in audio visual productions, including rigging, lighting, sound, and electronic operations in a large multi-use complex.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in audio engineering
  • Experience working in a performing arts center, concert venue or similar establishment
Applicant Information 
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of technical audio visual equipment used in the department.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical concepts and digital electronics.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry concepts.
  • Knowledge of radio and television programming concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of computer operated systems such as computerized scoring and information systems.
  • Knowledge of musical entertainment and show production, technical audio visual concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in operating technical audio visual equipment such as video recorders, television production switchers, television cameras, and audio control boards.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with clients and their technical representatives and those who make stage, show, sporting event, entertainment, and convention arrangements.
  • Ability to work with others and to express ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to supervise large numbers of people and multiple events simultaneously.
  • Ability to make intelligent estimates of manpower requirements and costs for clients.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, tenants, and the general public.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
