Position Summary:
Operates a variety of heavy equipment associated with landfill operations and the disposing of trash and refuse in the most efficient, safe, and environmentally sound manner possible.
Essential Job Functions:
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Operates bulldozer to push trash, cover trash, build roads, assists compactors and scraper in daily operations, fill or cut areas to grade.
Operates motor scrapers to excavate dirt for the purpose of covering trash, slopes, or building roads.
Operates trash compactor to push and compact trash.
Operates bulldozer to finish the final grading work.
Operates excavator to dig trenches, ditches and assist trucks with frozen loads.
Operates tanker water wagon to water roads for dust control and to fight fires in the dump area. Operates wheel loader to load trucks and to move materials.
Perform maintenance on equipment as required.
Performs duties associated with constructing cells, moving dirt to trash area and covering entire project with final cover.
Polices the landfill checking for contraband, works within, and complies with, all guidelines
Performs work on general construction projects.
Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent plus four years’ experience in operating heavy equipment in a comparable position.
Licenses and Certifications: Any Certification for the operation or training on the above mentioned equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective communication skills with operators, customer drivers, and employees.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of general maintenance and repairs of equipment and landfill.
Knowledge of basic construction practices.
Knowledge of the operation of a landfill.
Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations for landfills.
Ability to read grades and blue prints.
Ability to diagnose and repair defects in motorized equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
Physical ability to lift medium articles, sometimes weighing up to 50 pounds maximum and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; pushing and/or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds maximum.
Heavy mobility; duties are usually performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or climbing relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Frequent exposure of work time to dirt, dust, extremes of temperature, and noxious fumes and odors.
Exposure of work time to moderate work hazards when operating heavy equipment, plows, or using power tools.
