The City of Richmond Department of Social Services is seeking highly a qualified candidate to fill the position of Administrative Technician to assist in the Division of Economic Support & Independence Child Care Program. The incumbent is responsible for providing clerical support to the Division and delivering a high level of customer service.
- Creating, organizing, classifying, sorting, and maintaining the current filing system
- Setting up and organizing files
- Sorting, classifying and filing materials
- Purging obsolete material
- Retrieving and returning material requested from files
- Retrieving and forwarding case file folders
- Providing office support services to assigned area
- Answering telephones and directing calls
- Providing general information to callers and internal customers and assisting visitors in preparation of information forms when needed
- Taking and relaying messages
- Receiving, opening, logging, sorting, time-stamping and distributing mail
- Preparing material for mailing
- Providing assistance to other departmental employees and supervisors
- Typing correspondence and proofreading documents
- Accessing Virginia Department of Social Services automated systems to obtain information as requested
- Uploading and scanning required verifications in VDSS systems
- Receiving completed forms from customers and checking for accuracy
- Performing other related duties as assigned
**City of Richmond Social Services employees who work in this class are considered essential personnel and will be required to work during declared emergencies and major weather events.**
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years of related clerical or office support experience
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge in English language and grammar; Standard office equipment such as multi-line phones, computers, copiers, fax machines, scanning machines, etc.; Software such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.); and administrative and clerical procedures such as word processing, managing files and records, and designing forms.
Demonstrated skills in entering data accurately; maintaining confidentiality; thinking critically to solve problems; and data entry.
Demonstrated ability in following established procedures; attention to detail; working independently with little supervision; time management and organization; and use of sound judgment and decision making.

- Experience with Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS), Systems Partnering in a Demographic Repository (SPIDER), or similar case management systems.
