The City of Raleigh is looking for a Transportation Equipment Operator Foreman to join our Transportation Maintenance Division
In this role, you will oversee and assist crews maintaining rights-of-way on various City and NCDOT maintained roads and streets, including multi-lane thoroughfares and I-440, by blowing, mowing, edging, etc.; you will be responsible for vegetation management in various plant beds on City and NCDOT maintained streets; supervising and assisting leaf collection crews during leaf season; performing snow removal operations during inclement weather; acting as support staff during emergency events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.; Supervising assigned landscape maintenance crews; conducting employee performance evaluations; coordinating required safety training; implementing hiring and disciplinary actions for employees; other landscaping and street maintenance related duties. You may be assigned other street maintenance related duties as needed.
About You:
Within the Transportation Landscape Maintenance unit you will assist crews with landscaping on various roads throughout the City. You will also be responsible for supervising landscaping crews, as well as leaf collection crews, snow and ice operations, and assisting with emergency operations. You will also be responsible for keeping records of work completed in the Cityworks program, completing employee evaluations, and assisting with hiring staff.
Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division will provide an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter, asphalt, medians, and storm drains.
Duties and Responsibilities

Supervising landscaping crews- Operating small equipment such as blowers, edgers, weed eaters, tillers, chain saws
- Spraying applications
- Mulching
- Installation of ornamental plants and material
- Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks
- Performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations
- This position is required to operate various types of equipment on a daily basis
- Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during leaf collection, emergencies, and inclement weather
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School diploma (or GED) and 3 to 5 years' experience in light to medium construction equipment operation, or related workOR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Licenses or Certifications:

Valid
North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or
the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Physical Effort:

Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an outdoor environment, construction site, and in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in a street environment (near moving traffic), confined space, warehouse environment, or shop environment.
Work Exposures:
There is frequent exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and loud noises. Work is this position is occasionally exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate, individuals with known violent backgrounds, communicable diseases and/or toxic or caustic chemicals and substances.
