Job Description
The Attractions Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting park management with the day-to-day operations of facilities and programs at Pullen Park Amusements and other facilities as needed. This permanent part time role is also responsible for supervising park facilities and part-time staff in the absence of full-time park management. This is an entry level management role meant to enhance your leadership development as you work towards future opportunities within the team and department.

Reporting to the full-time management team and working in close collaboration with part-time staff within Pullen Amusements, the ideal candidate is a dedicated, motivated, and detail-oriented individual. You are highly organized, able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, take initiative without hesitation, and foster positive relationships both internally and externally. As the Attractions Assistant Manager, you will proactively support the needs of a dynamic and high-traffic park, strengthen relationships with the public and internal partners at the operational level, and work closely with our maintenance team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
About Us:
Join our team at historic Pullen Park, North Carolina's first amusement park. The Pullen Park campus contains 67 acres of gorgeous park land, offering a variety of activities to keep guests of all ages engaged and entertained. Our offerings include a carousel dating to 1911, an original Wurlitzer 125 band organ, a CP Huntington scaled train, kiddie boats and pedal boats, in addition to a variety of events and programs that we host throughout the year.
This position is expected to work 25 hours a week, Saturday - Friday, nights and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Park Management: Oversee Park opening and closing procedures, including bank out of cash drawers, ensure the proper operation of amusements in accordance with city procedures and state DOL policies, public speaking in front of small and large groups in scripted and unscripted situations, effective communication through radios, computers and phones, monitor park for cleanliness and maintenance issues
- Supervision: scheduling for part time staff, coaching/staff development, teaching and mentoring staff members including caretakers, cashiers, attractions operations, attractions leaders and event staff, shift supervisor for parking team on select weekend, assist facility staff with emergency and medical response, responsibility for safety and park security in the absence of full-time management
- Customer service: resolve guest concerns and inform management, when necessary, enforce city and park policies with all patrons, always provide exceptional customer service to park patrons
- Equipment: Use various vehicles (motorboats, gator, Paddle boats, Mountain Bike), drive City truck, including the possibility of towing a small trailer, operate amusements as per DOL standards and City policies, perform basic maintenance on equipment and facilities, assist with the setup, break down and maintenance of program related equipment
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
License and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
- First Aid and CPR certified
- Background in Parks and Recreation
- Experience working with children
- Experience supervising
Additional Information
Knowledge of:
- Park operations, including facility maintenance, and visitor services
- Basic principles of natural resource management, public safety practices, and local/state regulations pertaining to park use
- Customer service, conflict resolution, and general administrative procedures
- Effective communication, both written and verbal, to interact with park visitors, staff, and external partners
- Basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office and park management software
- Coordinating daily operations, supervising volunteers or seasonal staff, and handling emergency situations calmly and efficiently
- Prioritize tasks and adapt to changing work environments in a dynamic park setting
- Enforce Park rules with professionalism and tact, while maintaining a positive visitor experience
- Demonstrate strong leadership and organizational abilities, with a commitment to teamwork, safety, and stewardship of natural and recreational resources
- Speak English fluently

Medium Work:

Working Conditions:
