The City of Raleigh is looking for a highly competent and motivated individual to join the Finance Department to serve as a Senior Accountant within the Accounting and Financial Reporting Division. This position will work closely with finance leadership team members and is responsible for a wide variety of analysis used to make data driven operational and strategic decisions. A unique set of skills are required which include a strong accounting background, ability to analyze and interpret data and make recommendations as to the allocation of financial resources.
About You:
We are looking for a professional versed in performing complex accounting services in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and City policies. You will complete a wide variety of critical initiatives including preparing financial statements, journal entries, ledgers, and reconciling general ledger accounts while monitoring revenue and expenses. You will collaborate with departments on accounting, financial reporting, and grants fiscal management. You will facilitate audits of fund accounts, ensuring adherence to audit controls, and prepare monthly financial reports and be a critical team member preparing the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and Popular Annual Financial Report, conducting research and implementing new accounting pronouncements.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepares the Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR) and coordinates with external auditors
- Researches existing and newly required accounting pronouncements and single audit requirements, coordinates with City departments and provides training
- Conducts advanced fiscal analysis, performs complex account reconciliations and provides suggestions on proper internal controls, policies, and procedures to all City departments
- Prepares monthly journal entries and continuously reviews financial records and ledgers for accuracy for all City departments
- Reviews and approves grant reimbursement and monitors the budget and reporting for each grant to ensure compliance
- Prepares year-end reporting of grant fund financial statements as well as reconciliations of each grant for all departments
Typical Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field; 3 to 5 years' experience in accounting or a related field
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted
Preferred Qualifications:

Salary : $73,100 - $113,300
