This is a seasonal position within the Parks & Recreation Department.
The Zoo Worker provides customer service, program instruction, education, and guidance to various patrons. This position requires applicants to be 18 years of age or older.
The Education Program Assistant teaches a variety of experiential programming focused on creating a connection between the local community and wildlife. This position assists the Education Curator in implementing the zoo’s community education and outreach programs. The position includes creating, organizing, and implementing programming, such as summer camps, day classes, community events, and outreach programs.
The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public.
The work environment includes animal care and control and a building and grounds maintenance environment that includes the use of power equipment and outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperatures. The job is exposed to wild and/or exotic animals and requires occasionally handling or restraining them for medical attention. The noise level is generally moderate but can occasionally be high. Weekend and holiday work is often required.

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, climb ladders, work at heights, and in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with the public is required. Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- The job requires the ability to complete variable and complex projects and tasks independently such as conducting classes, outreaches and animal programs.
- The Education Program Assistant may be paired with volunteers, interns, students, and may be expected to make limited decisions in the field.
- Assists Education Curator in designing class lessons, preparation for education programs, and Zoo events.
- The job is responsible for helping with the care of Zoo Idaho’s education animals and raptor program. The incumbent must be able to engage a wide variety of audiences, create excitement, and captivate guests in a way that creates a memorable experience.

- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older;
- High school diploma or GED required;
- Idaho driver's license is required;
- Bachelor’s degree (or currently enrolled in program) in biology, science education, or a related field is preferred;
- Two (2) years education experience is preferred.
