Position Summary

Supervises and directs a crew of crafts persons and other personnel in repairing, maintaining, demolishing and/or constructing new or existing City structures (e.g., sidewalks, steps, sewers, streets, bridges, walls, playgrounds, shelters, fences, courts, batting cages, concessions stands, ball fields, etc.).

Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union, Local 2037, and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Qualifying Requirements

Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qual ifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position . You will receive notice of your eligibility status.

WORK EXPERIENCE: The applicant must clearly show three (3) years of full-time experience in infrastructure of new construction, repair, and maintenance, supervising a combination of crafts personnel in a construction field i.e., Cement Finishers, Bricklayers, Carpenters, and/or Structural Workers.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: None required for this position.

EQUIVALENCY: None required for this position. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.

CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

If you meet the qualifying requirements listed above, you will be sent a letter of admission (when applicable) for the following examination(s). You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. Candidates who receive job offers must pass a medical examination (when applicable) prior to start date.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Supervises and directs assigned personnel in repairing, maintaining, demolishing and/or constructing new or existing City structures (e.g., sidewalks, steps, sewers, streets, bridges, walls, playgrounds, shelters, fences, courts, batting cages, concessions stands, ball fields, etc.).
  • Ensures that work is performed in accordance with established City and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Supervises assigned personnel, evaluates work; recommends and implements approved disciplinary and/or corrective action; provides training and/or technical assistance as requested or required.
  • Estimates time and cost of assigned jobs; schedules assigned personnel and equipment; orders approved equipment and materials.
  • Performs accurate job layouts as requested or required.
  • Coordinates work with other crews and private contractors.
  • Selects methods and materials to be used for specific jobs after consultation with supervisor.
  • Provides information to public regarding work; handles complaints; may request property access.
  • Maintains records, including time sheets, job progress, materials costs, etc.; prepares accurate reports as requested or required.
  • Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes and controls the materials, equipment and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience and safety to the public and employees.
  • Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policy including union agreements to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.
  • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
