What You Will Do

Performs daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on doors and traditional style locks throughout city facilities and buildings. A high degree of competence in several trades with more than one at or above the acceptable skilled level. Ability to perform work independently or in teams and occasionally serving as a crew leader over other Building Maintenance Workers for specified projects. Responsible for determining appropriate work methods, tools, and materials used for most assignments. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough carpentry, cabinet making, plumbing, routine electrical or welding work, roofing, painting, drywall finishing, concrete/masonry work, and locksmithing.

What You Will Bring To The Team

A dedicated employee with extensive journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, houses, and other facilities.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Ability to work independently and safely using various tools and equipment of the trades such as a Volt Ohm Meter and climbing ladders.
  • Knowledge and skilled in the following:
    • Installing, maintaining, and repairing door components which include locks, closures, door frames, and hinges.
    • Plumbing codes and standard in repair/ replacement of varies fixtures, drains, water heaters, etc.
    • Commercial/ residential drywalling, repairs, taping, texturing and painting
    • Using computer, file management, and productivity software.
SALARY

Pay Range: $26.18 to $38.68 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.18 to $31.82 per hour.

  • Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.
  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of skilled level experience in building maintenance and repair work, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades.
  • Completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program.
  • OR Six years of trades experience, three of which are at the skilled level, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with the following:

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing door components which include locks, closures, door frames, and hinges.
  • The maintenance, repair, and installation of a wide variety of plumbing systems, fixtures and waste lines.
  • Painting a variety of surfaces both inside/ outside of buildings using brush, rollers, and spray guns.
  • Electrical repairs, installation of various motors, outlets, switches, lighting, exhaust fans, etc.
  • Various hand tools, power tools, and power equipment used in the various trades.
  • HVAC maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and use of multimeter.
  • Working with metal framing, drywall, taping and texture tools.
  • Rough and finished carpentry work.
