SALARY: $18.13 – $18.63/hour, depending on qualifications

JOB TYPE: Part-Time

UNION STATUS: non-union

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: Hours vary based on program and facility needs. This position may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on scheduled activities, events, and facility rentals. Opportunity for flex scheduling if dept allows.

CLOSING DATE: May 20th at 11:59pm


THE ROLE:

As the Recreation Aide I you'll perform & support work for a variety of recreation activities, programs, events, and facility needs for recreational programs in a community setting and related work as apparent or assigned. Provides front-line support for program delivery, customer service, and facility operations while helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and organized environment for participants. Work is performed under close to moderate supervision of a Recreation Specialist or designee (supervisor).


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides customer service; greets customers, answers questions, and assists with general inquiries; supports opening, set up, break down, and closing of programs, events, and facilities; communicates issues or concerns to supervisory staff as they arise.
  • Assists with maintaining a safe and orderly environment during programs, activities, and events; ensures and enforces program, facility, and department/division rules.
  • Performs light janitorial and basic maintenance duties, including trash removal and upkeep of non-industrial equipment.
  • Supports emergency procedures and responds appropriately to incidents as needed.
  • Assists with recreational and athletic activities, including supporting game management and learning/officiating basic rules as assigned.
  • Performs basic cash handling functions, including collecting fees, providing change, and assisting with register reconciliation and reporting as needed.
  • Recreational Program Support: Follows instructions and carries out assignments from lead instructors or Recreation Specialists; engages program participants in activities; interacts and communicates effectively with preschool and elementary-aged youth in a positive and professional manner.
  • Special Event Support: Assists with event preparation, including equipment gathering and activity setup; follows direction from Recreation Specialists; supports event setup; monitors booths and activities during events; assists with event cleanup.
  • Facility Rental Support/Supervision: Opens and closes facilities in accordance with established procedures; oversees facility rentals to ensure safe and appropriate use; communicates and enforces facility use rules; reports issues or concerns to supervisory staff.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):


  • Must be at least 15 years old. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with youth in recreational or educational settings.
  • Experience supporting programs, events, or group activities.
  • Customer service experience in a public-facing role.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

 This work requires regular and punctual attendance at the City's various parks and recreational facilities or other assigned locations; this work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and rare exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather) and exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
