Definition:

Under the supervision of a Supervisor of Sports performs a variety of routine functions involved with the use of surf chair and motorized wheel chair. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Makes reservations for use of chairs; may collect fees from chair users; informs users of rules concerning equipment and enforces rules or ejects unruly users or unauthorized persons as necessary; may patrol facilities to detect damage to facilities and chairs and report damages to appropriate authority; checks chairs; collects chairs; sees that individuals do not injure themselves when using chairs; may give first aid in case of accidents; on occasion assists users with chairs; maintains orderly conditions within the area; counts the number of participants; answers the telephone; enters names and addresses into the computer database; updates or revises computerized forms; picks up and transports chairs using a city vehicle; may perform varied routine tasks in the cleaning and maintenance of chair area; makes copies of identification of chair users; maintains simple records and files; reports to Recreation Supervisor on activities, plans, and problems; recommends action and carries out policies in dealing with chair users. 

Requirements:

Some Knowledge of: recreational activities. 

Ability to: read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position; count and record numerical data; understand, remember and carry out oral and written instructions; learn quickly from oral and written directions and demonstrations; establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers; deal courteously with the general public; keep simple records; administer basic first aide. 

Tools and Equipment Used:

May operate a city vehicle; personal computer and printer; water hose; clipboard; hole punch; writing implements; photocopier; telephone; FAX. 

Physical Demands:

Position requires employee to: Continuously sit, talk or hear, use hands to finger handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms; occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch while hosing down chairs; occasionally push up to 25 empty chairs in succession weighing up to 25 lbs. each 20 yards; occasionally push occupied chairs weighing more than 100 lbs. up and down a ramp for a total of 50 yards; rarely lift chairs into a truck. Special vision requirements: Close, distance, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment:

Position requires employee to: Occasionally get feet wet in the ocean, be exposed to blowing sand, and work in outside weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain, and wind. Loud noise is typical for the work environment. The employee will occasionally be required to change work hours or work beyond normal quitting time.
