Position Definition: This position works under the direct supervision of the department supervisor using established policies and procedures to provide library services for patrons in the Adult Services department. Duties include collection maintenance; reference and reader’s advisory; technical support using library electronic resources; explanation of basic library functions, services and resources; providing referral services to patrons using in person and by email and telephone; remaining abreast of Adult Services trends and development, implementation and promotion of a variety of programs for a culturally and financially diverse community. This position requires working some evenings and weekends.

Master’s degree in Library Science, and practical experience in adult services, internship included, are required. Experience with creating promotional materials, flyers, press releases email newsletters and website graphic are a plus.
Hours: Up to 19.5 hrs/wk.

Example Of Duties
- Maintains current knowledge of library technology, equipment and service trends.
- Establishes priorities in performance of assigned duties.
- Completes and reports to department supervisors the accomplishment of verbal and written instructions.
- Recommends materials to be added to the library using standard library selection tools.
- Plans and prepares bibliographies and booklists.
- Maintains the adult print and digital collections by regular examination and weeding.
- Collects data for statistical analysis and reports.
- Plans programs with patrons, educators and adult organizations to link the library to the community.
- Conducts database, technology, 3D printer and other related classes.
- Hosts book clubs and community group tours.
- Develops adult programs and classes for patrons
- Creates website posts.
- Plans and implements public relations activities though outreach and internal displays.
- Supervises FT and PT time staff and volunteers as directed by Department Supervisor.
- May assume responsibility of the department in absence of a Department Supervisor.
