The Northampton Public Schools is seeking a SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD – Long Term Substitute!
Schedule: Monday through Friday from 7:30-9:00 a.m. AND 2:00-3:30 p.m.
Hourly Pay Rate: $17.33 per hour
Definition:
Responsible for safely crossing children at the assigned crossing post.
Essential Functions:
- Report directly to assigned crossing stations, be on time, and remain there until the conclusion of the assignment.
- Ensure that children use the proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is moving.
- Be alert for present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding the assigned crossings. Submit to the Transportation Supervisor a written report of any such hazards with a recommendation for remedial steps to be taken.
- If unable to cover their posts, the Crossing Guard shall notify the Transportation Supervisor as soon as possible, at least one (1) hour before reporting time.
- Immediately report any personal injuries sustained while on duty, or any traffic accidents occurring at a crossing post while on duty.
- Traffic Control: Allow enough time and space for vehicles to stop safely. Allow trucks and other large vehicles to pass before stopping traffic. Allow additional time and space for stopping when roads are wet and/or slippery, or when other conditions so require.
- Enforce the following rules: Children should walk, not run, across the street. Bicycles should be walked across the street. Children shall not be allowed to step into the street until all traffic is stopped. Traffic shall not be allowed to start moving until the street is clear of all children and the Crossing Guard is out of the travel lane.
