What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager position at City of North Port?
Manages project compliance, coordination of budgeting, RFP contractor selection and operations; oversees construction/renovations of City-owned facilities; and performs a variety of special projects. Work is performed under the general direction of the Department Director.
- Provides construction project oversight for new City facilities; ensures coordination with the City's Capital Improvement Program.
- Acts as project manager for facility renovations/improvements; works directly with outside contractors to ensure accuracy of work; tracks and reports project costs.
- Prepares and administers budget; performs cost analysis of services provided and establishes performance measures.
- Develops RFPs, RFBs and project estimates.
- Participates in conceptual development of park improvement plans; provides input into Parks Master Plan.
- Develops and maintains automated work order system for more efficient customer service and performance reporting.
- Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting the building industry, including permitting process; ability to work from blue prints.
- Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance, operations and techniques, including landscaping practices, irrigation, plumbing and electrical repair and equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of sound project management principles, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including capital projects.
- Skilled in the utilization of enterprise-wide financial systems, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
- Ability to prepare complex financial reports from a variety of sources.
- Ability to analyze work methods and procedures, with general understanding of performance measures.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly - both orally and in writing, and at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in evaluating situations, based on established policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate with other employees, departments and outside agencies.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
- License as a Building Official, Building Plans Examiner or Building Inspector preferred.
- Six (6) years of work experience in construction and building trade, facility and grounds maintenance, to include three (3) years supervisory experience.
(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire.
- Must submit to, and receive clearance from, a State and National Criminal Background Investigation in compliance with the City of North Port Police Accreditation Hiring Standards.

Emergency Response Responsibility
Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.

Salary : $78,489 - $125,582
