This is a highly independent para- to professional position primarily responsible for tracking development projects managed by the Planning and Zoning Division within Development Services for compliance with regulatory timelines, deadlines, notification requirements, and established processes. Coordinates services of professional consultants.
Utilizes Acella and project management tools to monitor projects and work progress, including compliance with internal development review timelines, public notice requirements, and agenda deadlines. 
Communicates frequently with City Planners, other City departments, outside consultants, and applicants regarding status of project reviews and deadlines, and works with appliable parties to ensure compliance with State law, and the North Port Comprehensive Plan and Unified Land Development Code. 
Assists with project coordination for projects and other initiatives within other Development Services divisions as necessary. 
Assists in development, issuance, and coordination of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Letters of Interest (LOI), and other department project procurement documents. 
Works with outside consultants regarding implementation, ongoing coordination, and renewals for contracts. Generates monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports. 
Provides input regarding improvements and changes to Acella processes related to the Planning & Zoning functions. 
Coordinates with the Information Technology division regarding development, maintenance, and update of base map information utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other techniques. 
Maintains knowledge regarding existing statutes, proposed legislation, and developments in case law applicable to the responsibilities of the position, such as statutory timelines for development review, and makes recommendations for process revisions to ensure compliance. Communicates efficiently and respectfully with customers, team members, consultants, vendors, other municipalities, and large audiences. Works as a highly cooperative member of a team or individually to complete assigned tasks. 
Applies critical-thinking skills to solve problems by interpreting, evaluating, generating, and implementing solutions. 
Demonstrates sound decision-making ability and can make decisions independently within the scope of position and/or responsibility. Employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned, including City-directed work assignments in the event of a declared emergency.)Knowledge of laws and regulations related to planning and zoning, development, and permitting processes, especially Florida Statutes. Knowledge of sound project management principles, with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
Knowledge of budgetary development and administration. 
Skilled in the utilization of permitting and/or land management systems, spreadsheets, and databases. 
Skilled in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems. 
Skilled in using computers for data entry, word processing and accounting purposes. 
Ability to organize and communicate effectively. Ability to prepare complex from a variety of sources. 
Ability to analyze work methods and procedures, with general understanding of performance measures. 
Work requires significant attention to detail. 
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly - both orally and in writing, and at all levels of the organization. 
Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and discretion in evaluating situations, based on established policies and procedures. 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate with other employees, departments and outside agencies. 
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public.Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major in Planning, Project Management, Public Administration, or similar field of study. Two (2) years of work experience in planning and zoning or project management. (A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license by date of hire

Salary : $68,555 - $109,689
