Major Responsibilities

  • Under direction of the Chief of Staff and part of the Queens Borough Commissioner’s office team, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, manage difficult and responsible professional work.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Borough Commissioner's Office, including supervising assistants who oversee the Borough Commissioner’s schedule, the Agency’s correspondence and special projects.
  • Work in tandem with the Chief of Staff on critical policy and operational issues and serve as the Chief’s representative as needed to ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
  • Coordinate and manage the borough's capital projects, including liaising with the Capital and Planning divisions, conducting needs assessments and long-range planning, and organizing meetings and reviews.
  • Serve as a liaison between Capital and Maintenance & Operations.
  • Work on inter and intra-governmental issues/projects.
  • Conduct research, analyze and synthesize information from across the Agency to prepare reports, briefings, correspondence, PowerPoint presentations, reports and briefing documents, and ensure meeting follow up for the Borough Commissioner.
  • Represent the Chief of Staff or Borough Commissioner as required with staff, other City entities, and the stakeholder community at large.
  • Assist in planning and executing press events including but not limited to ribbon-cuttings, groundbreakings and ceremonies.
  • Coordinate special projects as directed by the Borough Commissioner and Chief of Staff.
  • Perform other related duties and functions as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Master’s Degree preferred. 2. Effective delegation and management skills. 3. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. 4. Proven track record of working autonomously as well as taking direction when needed. 5. Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written. 6. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies across a diverse community. 7. Excellent attention to detail in all schedule-related matters. 8. Discretion and judgment in handling sensitive information. 9. Experience working directly with a public official or other high-profile personnel. 10. Valid New York State driver license.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
