Job Function:
The Audio Visual (AV) Technician supports the technical needs for performances and events in the Mount Dora Community Building and related city facilities by communicating effectively, maintaining positive relationships with city employees and community partners, coordinating technical support, and overseeing the successful execution of events and productions for theater’s clients, external users, and other departments within City of Mount Dora.
Essential Duties:
- Assist with the operation of various cultural, educational and quality of life activities both in the Community Building and at special events in the City of Mount Dora.
- Provide operations and technical support for lighting, audio, video, and other technical systems for events and performances in the Community Building or other Special Event venues, if needed.
- Serve under the direction of the Cultural and Special Events Manager.
- Assist in setup of audio and visual displays for City meetings.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate high energy level and flexibility, pleasant persona coupled with sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and knowledge of correct protocol for specific situations.
- A thorough understanding of the production process and theatre production techniques.
- Knowledge of how to use modern lighting, sound, video and other technical equipment.
- Ability to maintain and program as needed all lighting, sound, and video equipment.
- Ability to operate lighting, sound and stage equipment during rehearsals and performances as well as following audio or visual cues.
- The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Flexibility and the ability to improvise when faced with unexpected situations.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of City resources for community events and activities.
- Familiarity of local city parks, streets and parking areas.
- Ability to efficiently resolve any conflicts while managing events.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records, and to present them clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with community and neighborhood groups, external public and private sector agencies, other City employees, event participants, and the general public.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience in Theatre Arts Management or Technical Theatre, Audio/Visual Support. Recreation or another related field preferred.
- Certification in one or more appropriate technical disciplines is strongly preferred.
- Experience in the field of technical theatre, event production or facility management.
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six (6) months of completion of probationary period.
Equipment:
- Computer, typewriter, copier, FAX equipment
- Yamaha CL5 Sound System, Digital Lighting Systems, Follow Spot and laser visual projection.
- Communications equipment (base, mobile and portable radios and mobile and stationary telephone)
- Department policy and procedure manual
- Telephones and intercom systems
Essential Physical Skills:
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without corrections)
- Ability to work, walk and stand for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 50lbs for events, i.e. barricades, signs, tents, and other equipment as necessary
- Must be able to work varied schedules and times, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Environmental Conditions:
- Works primarily in a facility environment however job activity at times may involve working outside during some selected events
- This position will require working at heights on ladders and lifts, frequent use of stairs, work in low light conditions, and frequent use of tools
- This position will be expected to work nights and weekends for Community Building productions and Special Events.
