Job Function:

To provide the City with an aesthetically pleasing tree program.  This is manual work involving tree trimming and/or tree removal, required some knowledge acquired through training or work experience.  General supervision received in accordance with specific instructions and defined procedures.

Essential Duties:

1. Assists in the maintenance, care, removal and planting of trees and any related duties assigned.
2. Makes minor repairs to equipment.
3. Makes sure all equipment is operated safely and is in a safe operating condition.
4. Deals with the public daily and frequently deals with other department employees.
5. Driver trucks and operates chainsaws and other small hand tools.
6. Is crossed trained somewhat to fill in for any position for short terms.
7. A lot of the job is removal of debris and general clean-up.
8. Subject to be called back for emergency work.
9. Cleaning of all equipment.
10. Performs related functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\

• Must have a basic knowledge of tree care.
• Working knowledge of chainsaw maintenance.
• Ability to operate large trucks sometimes in very tight locations.
• Ability to judge weights and distances.
• Must be able to operate large bucket trucks, brush chipper, chainsaws, handsaws, pole saws, pole clippers, hand pruners, axes, shovels, pitch forks, and ropes.

Required Qualifications:

• High school graduation or GED required.
• Some basic knowledge of the use and care of tools used in the Forestry Division’s Operation.
• Must possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License class B or higher.
• A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
• Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six (6) months of completion of probationary period.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
• Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections) 
• Visual acuity is required as a machine operator and/or mobile equipment operator.
• Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
• Physical ability for sitting, climbing, working form heights, standing, walking, pulling, heavy lifting, using fingers, bending grasping, crawling and strenuous physical work.
• Ability to physically lift 40 lbs. occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or more.

Environmental Conditions:

• Works primarily in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold, and inclement weather.
• Works during daytime and nighttime hours.
