JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for staffing the visitor information desk at the Moses Lake Civic Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs the duties of a visitor services attendant as assigned:
- Answers phone calls on the visitor information line.
- Responds to emails from the visitor information email inbox.
- Greets every visitor to the Civic Center and helps them with wayfinding in the building and around town.
- Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the Visitor Information Desk and surrounding area, stocks brochure racks.
- Creates a daily count of visitors and a chart of requests for assistance.
- Assists visitors who wish to make reservations or search the internet for tourism activities.
- Answers visitor’s questions.
- Communicates and enforces the rules of the Civic Center.
- Monitors security cameras placed around the building. Conducts periodic checks of restrooms and public areas in the Civic Center.
- Maintains the cleanliness of public spaces in the building, including the children’s play area.
- Assembles and mails Visitor Information packets on request.
- Keeps a current calendar of Civic Center events and meetings.
Performs additional related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of computers, specifically how to assist others using an iPad.
- Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
- Skill in communicating with the public.
- Skill in handling difficult visitor interactions.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
- Skill in answering phone calls and using a multi-line system.
- Prior knowledge of tourist opportunities in the area or willingness to learn.
- Outgoing personality and upbeat, positive attitude a must.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Museum & Art Center Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include Museum policies and City and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of dealing with the public in person, on the phone, and by email. Position must be able to communicate effectively and help visitors find the information they need.
The purpose of this position is to provide a positive experience for visitors to Moses Lake, promote tourism, and engender a positive public opinion of Moses Lake.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, and members of the public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and assist persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
The employee occasionally lifts objects up to 50 lbs.
Personal cell phone use is prohibited during work hours.
The work is typically performed in the avenue of the Civic Center.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of a high school diploma or GED. Temporary part-time position.
