SUPERVISION
General supervision is provided by the Equipment Services Senior Supervisor during the day or Equipment Services Shift Supervisor at night.
- All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Diagnoses problems or recurring malfunctions, chooses course of action, personally repairs or directs repair of vehicles and determines success of repair by road test or other means.
- Diagnoses, removes and completely rebuilds gasoline and diesel engines and electronic fuel injection systems, including replacing/rebuilding worn parts.
- Removes, repairs and/or replaces all or part of automatic and manual transmissions, brakes, suspension, exhaust, fuel, cooling and electrical systems.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, re-modifications and related services to various types of vehicular equipment.
- Utilizes technical diagnostic machines in determining vehicle failures. Uses hand tools, hoists, pressure gauges, drills, grinding wheels and factory manuals.
- Performs preventative maintenance inspections and State of Texas vehicle inspections.
- Prepares new vehicles and equipment to be placed into service.
- Performs road test on vehicles and equipment for safe and proper operation prior to returning to service.
- Cleans and maintains equipment and shop tools. Performs housekeeping duties.
- Keeps track of repair times, material and records in the FASTER fleet management System.
- May lead and train less skilled mechanics.
- Must furnish own hand tools.
1. Responds to service calls as needed; makes repairs in the field when possible; and tows vehicles when necessary.
2. Assists other technicians in performing repairs.
3. May modify, fabricate and install special equipment.
4. Researches and stays current on new technologies.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Technical Training: May require completion of up to 18 months of vocational education/training in automotive maintenance or repair at an accredited trade school.
EXPERIENCE
Five years of automotive/truck/equipment maintenance and repair experience at an accelerated progression of technical difficulty and responsibility.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of a valid driver's license and obtain a Class A commercial driver's license within 6 Months of employment start date and comply with the City of Mesquite’s policy on driving.
Must obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety/Emissions Inspection Certification within 6 months of hire.
Preference will be given to applicants who have an associate’s degree from an accredited college, valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL); Technicians having ASE Master Certification on Automotive or Medium/Heavy Trucks and familiar with computerized fleet management programs.
WORK SCHEDULEFIRST SHIFT—Mon - Fri, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a 30 min lunch break.
