What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Electrician II position at City of Lancaster (PA)?
Performs skilled electrical work in the maintenance and repair of the Wastewater or Water plant, pumping station, or tank equipment and/or building systems. Although work is reviewed by plant supervision, the employee is required to exercise considerable independent judgment.

- Performs diagnostic functions on advanced instrumentation to identify problems and make necessary corrections.
- Performs varied electrical work and some mechanical work in repairing and replacing motor parts.
- Installs, alters, and maintains programmable logic control inputs and outputs.
- Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical control systems used in conjunction with pumps and other electrical equipment.
- Installs and maintains motors, ac/dc, and small generators.
- Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
- Sets up, implements, and maintains a preventive maintenance program.
- Tests, locates, and repairs defects in electrical circuits or equipment.
- Locates and repairs or corrects power failures and short circuits.
- Maintains variable frequency drives.
- Repairs and maintains security systems and related programs.
- Repairs light fixtures at significant heights.
- Replaces existing belt drives with new variable frequency drives.
- Assists Instrument Technicians in the maintenance and repair of electronic equipment and systems.
- Possession of a valid Pennsylvania State driver’s license is required.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Water Transmission and Distribution Certification Class E from the Department of Environmental Resources or pass the certification test no later than eighteen (18) months (full-time) in this position.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Wastewater Collection System Certification Class E from the Department of Environmental Resources or pass the certification test no later than eighteen (18) months (full-time) in this position.

Safety Equipment Used or Needed
- Personal protective equipment such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, rain gear, steel-toed safety shoes, rain boots, respirators, and arc flash equipment/clothing.
- Knowledge of safe practices related to Public Works.
- Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade.
- Considerable knowledge of three-phase power systems, electrical motors, switchgear, and other electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and necessary safety precautions.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes.
- Knowledge of programmable logic control basics and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and calibration for resetting tank level controls.
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E and associated personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures for Arc Flash.
- Knowledge of conduit systems and the ability to fabricate short runs in metallic or PVC conduit.
- Ability to locate and adjust defects in electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to use and care for tools and equipment of the electrical trade.
- Proven ability to interpret, verify, and accurately enter data into a computer database is required.
- Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and use them in troubleshooting and repairing all types of plant and pumping station electrical equipment is required.
- Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions and to read and interpret sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Ability to troubleshoot variable frequency drives, including programming.
- Ability to integrate new and existing equipment with the programmable logic control system.
- Ability to install, set up, and startup programmable systems is required.
- Ability to perform basic electrical work, including but not limited to cleaning, inspecting, and replacing bearings on electrical motors and making terminations on circuits up to three-phase, 480 volts.
- Ability to operate a vehicle on private and public streets is required.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions.
- Proven ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English is required.
