General Statement
Under the supervision of the Emergency Communications Supervisor, the Telecommunicator (TCO) is responsible for providing critical support to the Kyle Police Department’s 24/7 emergency communications center. TCOs handles a wide range of emergency, non-emergency communications, and dispatch of calls for police assistance.
The minimum starting salary is $55,931.00 - $69,074.79* Competitive Benefits* Eligible experience, education, and expertise may provide a greater starting base pay within the full pay range.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Answer 911 and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police services.
- Evaluate and prioritize the nature and location of calls, dispatch appropriate police units per established procedures.
- Maintain continuous communication with field units, track location and status of officers.
- Retrieve and input information into local and state public safety databases.
- Respond to information requests regarding vehicle registration, driving records, and outstanding warrants.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and communication channels.
- Operate a variety of equipment, including multi-line telephones, radio consoles, and computer systems.
- Provide callers with pre-arrival safety instructions during critical or hazardous situations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of call details and dispatch activities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum / Preferred Qualifications, Experience, and/or Certifications Required
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must successfully complete, after hire, training and certification in:
- TLETS/OMNIXX within 6 months
- TDD
- CPR and T-CPR
- TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator License within 12 months
- Additional required emergency communication certifications

Must pass an extensive background investigation.
- Must meet all Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in public safety communications or dispatching.
- Familiarity with emergency services, police terminology, and CAD systems is desirable.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.

- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in high-stress and fast-paced environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately interpret and relay critical information between the public and responders.
- Proficiency in operating multiple computer programs and communication systems simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with other departments, agencies, and the public.
- Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, emergency events, and overtime as needed.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
The duties of this job require the employee frequently to sit for lengthy periods. The employee regularly is required to read, speak, including talking on a telephone, and hear with background noise. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
