What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Attendant Preschool Sports position at City of Kirkland?
Staff leads and officiates Pee Wee Sports programs at city facilities, athletics fields, school gymnasium and/or off-site program locations. Pee Wee Sports are for ages 3-6. Set up and break down equipment prior to and following games; maintain a clean, safe and orderly facility, responsible for enforcing game rules while also cultivating a positive culture, acting as an on-field coach. Training provided.

Work may be performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including City facilities such as community centers, City parks, Lake Washington School District facilities and off-site locations. Work settings may involve high levels of noise, many people, adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, standing for extended periods of time, and interruptions.

- Seasons run September – October for Fall Soccer; October – March for Basketball, April – May for Soccer. Shifts are on Saturdays 8am-3pm. Flexible schedule.
Recreation Attendants May Be Assigned To
- Programs, such as youth or adult sports.
- Referee sports for ages 3-6; while providing guidance to the young players.
- Understand & enforce any rules, ensuring a fun learning and safe environment for all players.
- Teach & demonstrate core concepts including Sportsmanship values.
- Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and superior customer service skills.
- Open, close, and secure facilities and equipment.
- Greet and assist participants, staff, and the public in person.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Good verbal, written and communication skills are required.
- Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
- Experience as a player, coach, or referee is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Experience working with preschool aged youth is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
- Education: No minimum education requirements.
- Experience: 6 months of customer service experience.
- Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certificate within 90 days of hire.
- May be required to possess a Washington State driver’s license and submit a driving abstract, depending on area of assignment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and use stairs.
