Staff leads and officiates Pee Wee Sports programs at city facilities, athletics fields, school gymnasium and/or off-site program locations. Pee Wee Sports are for ages 3-6. Set up and break down equipment prior to and following games; maintain a clean, safe and orderly facility, responsible for enforcing game rules while also cultivating a positive culture, acting as an on-field coach. Training provided.

  • Up to 10 Pee Wee staff will be hired.

  • Seasons run September – October for Fall Soccer; October – March for Basketball, April – May for Soccer. Shifts are on Saturdays 8am-3pm. Flexible schedule.

Paid training will be provided prior to the start of each season. Special Note Candidates are encouraged to apply ASAP. While final selection will not occur until after closing, screening and interviewing may commence prior to the closing date. The role of the Recreation Attendant Preschool Sports attendant is to provide outstanding customer service and assist in providing operational support to recreation programs within Parks and Community Services. Recreation Preschool Sports Attendants serve as the on-site City representative and may work at City facilities, athletic fields, school gymnasiums, City parks, and/or off-site program locations..

Recreation Attendants May Be Assigned To

  • Programs, such as youth or adult sports.

Distinguishing Characteristics: The Recreation Preschool Sports Attendant is an entry-level position that assists with preschool aged sports programs. This position reports to Program Coordinators. Essential Functions: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Referee sports for ages 3-6; while providing guidance to the young players.
  • Understand & enforce any rules, ensuring a fun learning and safe environment for all players.
  • Teach & demonstrate core concepts including Sportsmanship values.
  • Consistently demonstrate a positive attitude and superior customer service skills.
  • Open, close, and secure facilities and equipment.
  • Greet and assist participants, staff, and the public in person.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Work may be performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, including City facilities such as community centers, City parks, Lake Washington School District facilities and off-site locations. Work settings may involve high levels of noise, many people, adverse weather conditions, uneven terrain, standing for extended periods of time, and interruptions.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Good verbal, written and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public to acknowledge both compliments and complaints.
  • Experience as a player, coach, or referee is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Experience working with preschool aged youth is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: No minimum education requirements.
  • Experience: 6 months of customer service experience.
  • Or: In place of the above requirements, the incumbent may possess any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to proficiently perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certificate within 90 days of hire.
  • May be required to possess a Washington State driver’s license and submit a driving abstract, depending on area of assignment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and use stairs.

Candidates who are selected to interview will be required to complete a Criminal History Release Form and a RCW Supplemental Questionnaire.
