The Tukwila Community Center is looking to hire multiple Preschool Recreation Leaders to work in our Pre-School program! As a Preschool Recreation Leader, you will assist with daily tasks and support the teacher in implementing lesson plans and activities. 


About the Community Center

The Tukwila Community Center boasts beautiful meeting rooms, classrooms, banquet facilities, and a commercial kitchen, which are available for rental. The center is in a peaceful setting along the Duwamish River. It hosts several activities and resources for seniors, adults, teens, and young children. This includes fitness, recreation and wellness programs, as well as a preschool.

Tukwila shares borders with the Cities of Seattle, Renton, SeaTac, Burien, and Kent. Its central location lies in the heart of the Puget Sound region, sitting 12 miles south of downtown Seattle, 17 miles north of downtown Tacoma, and just east of SeaTac Airport. It is easily accessed by I-5 and I-405 or via either of Tukwila's two train stations, the Sounder Station or the Sound Transit Light Rail Station.

This is a temporary seasonal position assigned to the Tukwila Parks & Recreation Preschool Program. This position will assist recreation staff with direct program leadership, general supervision and general operation over the preschool programs and activities. (Position not to exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month period).  Working hours will be 8:45am – 12:45 pm., Monday - Friday. 

This position is a seasonal/temporary position and Non-PERS or benefits eligible. All positions are limited, part-time and will not exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month period.  You can expect to work 20 hours per week depending on program needs.

  • Assists with general supervision of preschool programs and activities.
  • Safeguards program participants and provides for a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintains and oversees the proper use of equipment and supplies by participants.
  • Completes and maintains proper forms, reports, and information for recreation staff.
  • Enforces facility, equipment, and program rules and regulations, taking appropriate corrective action with participants when necessary.
  • Assists with planning, scheduling, and organizing of preschool events and activities.
  • Other duties vary based on specific responsibilities for each position.


  • Friendly, positive and able to work in a preschool classroom;

  • Physical ability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program participants, and preschool aged children;

  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision;

  • Ability to lead a classroom of preschoolers.


Minimum Qualifications:

(A) Minimum of 18 years old; 

(B) Must have a High School Diploma or GED; 

(C) Strong interest and ability to lead activities in art, sports and games for preschool aged children; 

(D) Previous knowledge and experience with preschool programs, policies and procedures desired.   


Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Washington State ID. Must be physically capable of assisting and participating in physical activities. Maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain prior to employment.


Preferred Experience 

1 - 3 years of working with children ages 3 - 5 yrs old in a preschool environment.
