Responsibilities

What you'll do
  • Perform building and mechanical repair work, including basic welding, carpentry, and electrical wiring, to keep facilities operational and safe.
  • Use tools such as plasma cutters and oxygen acetylene torches to complete repairs efficiently and accurately.
  • Complete concrete work including flatwork, wall forms, and rebar tying, ensuring projects meet basic construction standards.
  • Calculate and order materials such as concrete to support maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Support emergency snow removal operations to maintain safe access to City facilities and roadways.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support daily maintenance operations.


Qualifications

REQUIRES
  • Two years of experience as a skilled worker in building and mechanical repair work in a relevant trade (HVAC, boilers, hydraulics, pumps and motors etc.).
  • An additional related technical education certificate or diploma may be substituted for one year experience.
  • Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in accordance with the City of KCMO policies.
  • May be required to obtain a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period. (Appropriate CDL will be determined by the department).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.

If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
