The City of Jefferson is now accepting applications for a Police Lieutenant for our Police Department. This supervisory position will assign and direct the police patrol squad with integrity and effective leadership to ensure all personnel has the tools necessary to exceed in their position. The ideal candidate will ensure police activities are conducted in a manner designed to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Reviews warrant applications to determine if probable cause exists; directs follow up investigations to ensure professional standards are being followed; coordinates suspects and witness interviews to ensure proper investigative techniques are being used; assists in budget preparation; provides input into training needs ensuring all personnel are thoroughly prepared with the necessary tools to perform their jobs in accordance with departmental regulations.
Supervises sergeants, patrol officers, and detectives; responds to emergency calls for service; interprets new rules, regulations and laws to ensure all patrol officers have the necessary information to perform their jobs; conducts performance appraisals of patrol division sergeants and monitors squad or division performance.
Organizes and conducts criminal investigations; ensures proper collection and examination of evidence at major crime scenes, and preservation for trial; writes investigative reports; renders credible testimony in a court of law.
Conducts investigative, pre-employment and internal interviews; represents police department on various boards including civic organizations, planning and research, city safety, citizens & crisis service groups to ensure coordination with these groups and the police department; participates as a liaison for the Police Department with other city departments, state and federal agencies.
Assumes the responsibilities of a Police Captain in their absence.
Prepares staff reports, department and divisional orders and reports to the division commander and/or Chief of Police; serves as watch commander, unit commander or staff officer in charge of major functions; reviews reports and oversees daily submission of paperwork, including offense reports, accident reports, and uniform traffic tickets; and conducts vehicle and personnel inspections.
Instructs and participates in the Citizen's Police Academy. Reviews employee performance and productivity levels in relation to racial profiling statistics and identifies community problems; coordinates, organizes and supervises detail units for community events including parades, sporting events, demonstrations and other major events; supervises and manages specialty unit or function including the Reserve Unit, Special Response Team, Field Training Officer Program, Career Development Program, and Weapons Range Qualifications.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and six years' experience as a state certified commissioned public law enforcement officer including one of the years of experience in a supervisory position. An accredited Bachelors' degree highly preferred. Must be licensed in the State of Missouri as a Law Enforcement Officer.
Must have a general understanding of modern management practices and theory of law enforcement administration with strong leadership qualities.
