Role Description
The Environmental Education Camp Counselor and Enrichment Activity Leader is a temporary position based on-site in Indianapolis, IN. This role involves leading and facilitating environmental education programs and enrichment activities for youth in a camp setting. Responsibilities include creating engaging educational experiences related to nature and sustainability, supervising participants, ensuring their safety, and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Daily duties may also include preparing materials, managing schedules, and collaborating with other staff members to enhance program impact.
Qualifications
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree or working toward a degree in Interpretation, Recreation, Environmental Education, Education, or Natural Resources strongly preferred. Or 3-4 years of experience in Interpretation, Recreation, Environmental Education, Education, or Natural Resources
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have at least 2 years' experience working with youth in a supportive environment.
- Must have current certification in CPR/First Aid prior to summer employment. (prior to starting)
- Must have good communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work daytime hours ranging from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with participants and collaborate with team members.
- Experience in environmental education, teaching, or leading activities for children and youth.
- Knowledge of ecology, nature, and sustainability topics, with the ability to communicate these concepts in an age-appropriate manner.
- Organizational skills, including activity planning and time management capabilities.
- Ability to ensure participant safety, address behavioral concerns, and create an inclusive and supportive environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and program needs, with a proactive and positive attitude.
