The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for an Aquatics Specialist.  This position performs a variety of administrative and supervisory duties relative to planning, scheduling, organizing, coordinating and providing oversight to the City aquatics programs.
 
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Aquatics Manager.  Provides general supervision to all Aquatic staff.
Supervises and manages schedules for employees, swimming lessons and other necessary aquatic programs; registers participants for programs and resolves any conflicts or issues that may arise. Develop a good working relationship with the public and be able to assist them with their aquatic needs and to answer questions that they may have.
 
Develops and manages work schedules for the Aquatic Center employees and makes recommendations for personnel actions to the Aquatics manager.
 
Assists with the participant program.
 
Provides conflict resolution as needed.

Monitors activities and programs at Aquatic Center. Responsible for counting cash and completing cash reports.  Purchases items for the Aquatic Center and Aquatics programs as needed.
 
Assists the Aquatic Manager and/or Supervisor with planning & organizing aquatic program and events.
 
Plans, executes, follows up, and surveys participants for programs and special events such as lessons, swim teams, triathlon, fitness, themed public swims, and other programs that may be developed in the future.
 
Preforms routine evaluations of current lifeguard staff, ensuring all rules and policies are being followed.
 
Performs Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor duties when needed. 
 
Performs necessary maintenance duties to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations and to maintain the upkeep and appearance of the Aquatic Center; maintains and monitors pool, hot tub, and wading pool chemical balances for safe operations and to meet State Health Regulations.
 
Attends various conferences and workshops to keep abreast of current trends in Aquatic programming and pool operations; and to maintain current certification in instruction and pool operations.
 
Manages the Aquatic Center in the absence of the Aquatics Manager.
 
Performs related duties as required.
1.  Education and Experience:
 
A.  Graduation from high school or equivalent; AND B.  Two (2) years experience in aquatic programming or activities;  OR C.  An equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
2.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
Working knowledge of principles and practices of aquatic programming, pool and spa operations, program evaluation methods, principles of employee supervision, interpersonal communication skills and public relations, budget development, technical writing and promotion of Aquatic programs.
 
Ability to carry out and evaluate Aquatic programs, personnel effectiveness and efficiency; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with Supervisors, State and Local Emergency Personnel, fellow workers, community-interest groups, and the public.
 
3.  Special Qualifications:
 
Must currently hold the following certifications or be able to obtain within 3 months of employment:
·    NSPF Certified Pool Operator or NRPA Aquatic Facility Operator
·    ARC Lifeguard Training
·    CPR-PR, AED and First Aid
·    ARC Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent
·    Oxygen Management
·    Lifeguard Instructor
Tasks require a variety of physical activities generally involving muscular strain. Physical demands may occur in activities related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Occasional exposure to environmental and work hazards resulting from working in a hot and humid aquatic environment. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.

Salary : $38,542 - $41,808
