The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for Parks Green Team positions. These positions perform a variety of entry level, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance duties essential to the upkeep of:
Works under the close supervision of a Parks Maintenance Operator I, Parks Maintenance Operator II, Parks Maintenance Operator III, or Parks Manager.

This announcement will be used to fill Seasonal/Part-Time positions in various capacities, as they become available. These positions work anywhere from 40 hours per week for the season to around 20 hours per week which includes evening hours, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call.
To be eligible for this role, candidates must be 16 years of age or older at the time of application.

May perform one or several essential functions below.
Mows and trims; parks, cemeteries, turfgrass areas, developed and underdeveloped ground such as; right-of-ways, canal banks, vacant lots, etc.
Monitors and waters plant material in: parks, ornamental landscapes, flower beds, and greenhouse.
Athletic field maintenance; line painting, raking, surface conditioning, etc.
Maintains and cleans restrooms, park shelters, structures, and buildings.
Participates in the construction, installation, repair and maintenance of park amenities such as; ornamental landscape areas, restrooms, buildings, shelters, fences and barriers.
Constructs, installs and maintains irrigation systems at parks, facilities and City grounds.
Applies; pesticides, fertilizer, soil amendments and other chemicals to parks, City grounds.
Gathers, remove and dispose of weeds, litter, debris, and garbage from City grounds.
Clears snow and ice from walkways, parking lots and other city grounds as needed.
Uses a variety of hand tools, such as: shovels, rakes, brooms, pruners, hand saws, etc.
Operates and maintains small and light equipment as needed to accomplish work assignments. May be required to operate heavy equipment (tractor, backhoe, etc.) on a limited basis.
Assist with projects and special events. Prepare grounds for special event use, which may include installing and removing: temporary structures and traffic control devices. Monitor grounds during special events, which includes, emptying garbage cans, cleaning up garbage and debris at event, and interacting with customers to ensure customer service goals are being met. Remove garbage and debris after event.
May be required to assist in burials of human remains and cremains. This involves the opening and closing (digging and filling) of burial plots, may be exposed to grieving members of the public, handling of human cremains (urns) and seeing human remains.
Prepares and maintains grounds for winter recreating, such as, ice arenas, and cross-country ski trails.
Performs related duties as required.1. Education and Experience:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties; AND B. Some experience in the operation of heavy-duty trucks desirable; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties; some knowledge of the operation of standard hand and power tools.
Some skill in the operation of standard hand tools and mid-size trucks preferred.
Ability to work in all weather extremes; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to operate small motorized vehicles and pick-up; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
3. Special Qualifications:
Some departments may require a valid driver's license. Some departments may require employees to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call.
Final candidates will be subject to a background check prior to employment. Candidates under 18 years of age will require a parent or guardian signature on the background check form.Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc.(moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving up to 80 pounds).
