- Hourly Employment: Roster positions are paid hourly and do not include benefits such as medical, dental, or vision insurance, life insurance, paid leave, or paid holidays.
- Limited Hours: Roster employees may work up to, but no more than, 1,000 hours in a 12 month period.
- Pension System: Roster positions are not eligible for membership in the city’s pension system.

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, a four-time Gold Medal Award winner, is seeking enthusiastic and safety-conscious individuals to join our team as City Pool Lifeguards. This position provides the opportunity to ensure community safety while fostering a fun and inclusive environment at our aquatic facilities.
As a Lifeguard, your responsibilities include:
- Monitoring aquatic activities and ensuring the safety of all participants.
- Responding to emergencies and providing care per American Red Cross Lifeguard standards.
- Enforcing rules, regulations, and policies to prevent accidents.
- Assisting with swim lessons and teaching when required.
- Maintaining facility cleanliness and assisting in setup/takedown of equipment.
- Providing exceptional customer service and promoting a fun, safe environment.
- Managing inquiries about pool hours, fees, and activities accurately.
This job is Non-Exempt under FLSA.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification.
- CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations for pool facilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification.
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification.
- Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification.
Other Recruitment Requirements &/or Considerations:
- Ability to work as scheduled mid-May through Labor Day
- May apply to participate in a Lifeguard class for staff prior to the summer season to attain certifications
- Stronger consideration and a higher wage may be provided to candidates who possess LGI certification, additional related certifications
- Please provide copies of certifications with the application
- Must complete a swimming and lifeguard skills test as part of the interview process
- Must be available to report to work for orientation and training in May
- Additional mandatory in-service trainings/meetings will be held
