What you will do:
The City of Burlington's Recreation & Parks Department is looking for skilled swimmers to serve as lifeguards at Burlington Aquatic facilities. This flexible position involves supervising the safe use of public aquatic facilities, enforcing safety regulations, and ensuring a professional and friendly environment. Lifeguards are also responsible for pool maintenance, cleaning, and other duties as assigned. Shifts vary and are available seven days a week, with high demand for daytime shifts during the school year. Participation in mandatory in-service training is required.
Work Schedule: Hours/days will vary based on facility need and staff availability.

- Foster a cooperative and positive attitude while interacting with the public.
- Handle public concerns and complaints with courtesy and tact.
- Engage effectively with youth, adults, and senior citizens.
- Utilize sound decision-making skills in all situations.
- Apply First Aid, CPR, and AED techniques effectively during emergencies.
- Perform basic rescue techniques and emergency procedures as trained.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Enforce facility rules firmly, yet tactfully.
- Flexibly work various shifts as assigned.
- Aquatic Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of aquatic safety principles, rules, regulations, and emergency action procedures.
- Safety & Rescue Equipment Expertise: Proficient in the proper use and maintenance of safety and rescue equipment.
- Aquatic Facility Maintenance: Skilled in methods and techniques for maintaining and operating aquatic facilities.
- Policy Familiarity: Knowledgeable of policies governing the County Parks Department and pool facility operations.
- Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Well-versed in federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety regulations relevant to aquatic and recreational facilities.
- Reliable transportation.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Proof of or ability to complete* the American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider certification is required.
- Work Permit is required for applicants under the age of 18
- Previous Aquatics experience.
